Freelance Writing: Learning and Earning Money in Your Own Personal Space

Time is essential, and what we do with it is even more so. Despite busy schedules and heaps of work, we always have this little free time for ourselves, and we are left into thinking of what should we do – should we go out and have fun with our friends, or dwell into the comfort of our beds and the corners of our bedroom. It all depends on what kind of mood you are in or kind of person you are, and personally, I prefer the latter. There’s nothing more comforting than having a hot cup of tea with a good book, or a laptop for writing and searching the net for interesting things. Sometimes, I write blogs, short stories (if I have some left of my childhood imagination), or all the random things that come into my head. The downside of this, however, is the selection of what to write about, what to read about, or what to think about – the world has endless possibilities of ideas! If we are on the same boat, then, let me tell you the solution I had for this dilemma (along with some freebies) – freelance writing.

So, then, what is it with freelance writing that made my free times enjoyable and productive at the same time?

From the word itself, you can express your own style (or learn a new one).

Different people have different styles of writing, and none is actually better than the other. As long as it revolves around the topic required, you can write your most comfortable style, and in this way, you get to enjoy what you write about. You can stay in your comfort zone, or go beyond it.

You learn. A LOT.

There are lots of different topics to write about, and along the process of researching and reading for supplementary readings and resources, you get to learn things you never even learned in school. You get to watch movies and make reviews, or read books and learn about a certain event in the past. There are topics that feel like the “behind the scenes” of some important historical events and personally, I can never get enough of these topics. So if you’re a knowledge and trivia junkie, freelance writing is like the holy grail for your cravings. Also, the staff will help you edit your work to make it better. Constructive criticism is always one of the keys to successful writing.

You earn big, you earn fast, you earn with your work.

Maybe you’re waiting for the catch, and here it is. You are free to do your style of writing, but then, your work is no longer for free. Imagine having a job you actually like, and being paid for it. On your first assignment, it feels like it’s not much, but then, as days of various assignments pass by, you will receive the golden fruit of your labor. Of course, the more hardworking you are, the more income you get. Now you have this extra pocket money that allows you to indulge every once in a while.

You don’t have to go outside, except to withdraw your money and watch that movie you’ve been waiting for.

Your room is your office, your canvas is your blank page. Personally, this is what I love most about freelance writing – I can write in my own personal space. No distractions, no noise, just me, my laptop, and my craving mind for writing. You don’t have to go outside and endure the heavy traffic and hassle commute – you can just sit back, relax, think, and write yourself away.

Freelance writing is actually a win-win situation. You enjoy what you write about, you learn a lot of new things, and last, but definitely not the least, you get to earn money. Some projects are easy, some are difficult, but who doesn’t love a great challenge?

So go on, practice in your comfort zone, or dwell beyond it. Write away, give it a try, and have a chance to learn new things. You may finally buy that item you’ve been saving for months, even years, and tell yourself, “I really worked hard for this.”
