When Happens when Freelance Academic Writers Lose Confidence

Writing is not an easy task even for professional writers. This is because people read the quality of articles being written and once they feel they are not satisfied with it, they would lose interest and connection with the writer. Of course, nobody is perfect, but it is important for writers to establish confidence so they can work efficiently. Here are some suggestions for those who are losing confidence in writing.

Know the topic well

Writing is easy when you know your topic well. But doing so requires proper and in-depth planning. You cannot just write without having an idea of the topic, especially if it is academic writing. You need to do thorough research and take your topic wholeheartedly so that you can start writing confidently.

It is hard to start, yes, but once you find the momentum to keep going, everything becomes easy. Read what you are writing, understand every little details, create outlines so that you will not lose track, and make sure that somebody is going to check it out for you once you are finished. As soon as you start doing these, you will realize that you are writing more confidently than before.

Take negative comments positively

We can’t please everyone. Most revisions are returned because they are not written properly or still contain simple mistakes. Negative comments like typo errors, articles lacking depth and substance and any other reason are just normal part of the writing process. The fact that negative comments exist means you need to “step up” your writing.

We are not perfect and even for the most experienced writer, mistakes can happen. What is more important is how we handle negative comments and take them positively to improve our writing. An important message – never lose your confidence to negative comments. Take some time to read what the comment says and learn from it. People have their own way of saying what they feel and you need to accept that some can comment nicely while others can’t.  Positive or not, always look at the brighter side of what is being said and consider this as a learning experience.

Learn to let go

Finally, learn to let go. You don’t have to sit there for hours thinking about the mistakes you made. Once you corrected them, make sure that you don’t repeat them in your future projects. As a writer, we cannot please everyone – some will like our work and some won’t. We just need to move forward and improve ourselves in our next tasks.
